Typisch Toskana!
Olio extra vergine di oliva Chianti Classico DOP from Fontodi
100% organic, 100% tasteful!
Olive oil is an integral part of the cuisine in Tuscany - and so olive trees are an integral part of the Tuscan landscape. In addition to all the top wines that are produced at the Tenuta Fontodi, an excellent extra virgin olive oil is also produced here. At Tenuta Fontodi on one hectare of land grow around 400 Correggiolo and Moraiolo trees. When the olives are ripe enough, they are harvested by hand with great care and pressed the same day to conserve the freshness and fruitiness of the olio. Fontodi olive oil consists of 80 per cent Correggiolo fruit and 20 per cent Moraiolo fruit. Fontodi has never used pesticides and today the winery is a certified as organic estate. And therefore the olive oil is also fully organic - and you can feel it in the taste!
The Tenuta Fontodi: almost 80 hectares of wine paradise in Panzano in Chianti
Undoubtedly, the Fontodi winery, enthroned on a single hill at the gates of Panzano, is one of the flagships of Chianti Classico. Since the Manetti family bought the estate in 1968, it has been completely renovated, renewed and extended. The brothers Giovanni and Marco Manetti, both still very young at that time, experimented with various grape varieties and then decided to cultivate a smaller proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in addition to the Sangiovese grape variety. As oenologists they engaged the famous Franco Bernabei. Herbicides and pesticides were never used even in the beginning - Fontodi is a certified organic estate. The vineyards of Fontodi open to the south like a huge amphitheatre to the Conca d’Oro, the golden valley of Panzano in Chianti. This shape ensures extremely favourable climatic conditions - sunny during the day and cool at night - perfect conditions for the sensitive Sangiovese grape. They are ideally ventilated and drained. All this is an optimal basis for perfect wines. Today Giovanni Manetti runs the almost 80 hectare vineyard alone, his brother takes care of the family terracotta business.
Flaccianello & Co.: wines with great names and great taste
Wine lovers from all over the world know the name Flacianello, or more correctly - the Flaccianello della Pieve Colli Toscana Centrale IGT with its unmistakable Etruscan cross on the label. Because this wine made from hundred per cent Sangiovese has already been voted several times among the top 10 wines of the world. Next to the Flaccianello, the Chianti Classico plays the leading role in the Fontodi range in terms of quantity. That is the "little" brother of Flaccianello - because it is also made from hundred per cent Sangiovese. Since the vintage 2010 the Vigna del Sorbo from Fontodi is classified as Chianti Classico Gran Selezione. The grapes for it come from a single vineyard and since the vintage 2012 the Vigna del Sorbo consists exclusively of Sangiovese grapes. Another red wine in the Fontodi portfolio is the Syrah Case Via, which consists of the international Syrah variety. And despite this international caracter you can perfectly taste the terroir of Panzano in Chianti. One of the rare white wines from Chianti Classico is also made here - the Meriggio from 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Unfortunately only in very small quantities.
A must for all wine and Tuscany lovers: holidays at Fontodi!
The absolute must for all wine lovers - or rather for lovers of Chianti Classico - is a visit at the Fontodi Winery. It is better to register in advance for a guided tour of the winery. Wine cellars and wines are spectacular! And if you like the estate so much that you want to stay longer, simply book a holiday in one of the three holiday homes that belong to Fontodi. Giovanna, the sister of Giovanni Manetti, runs the three agriturismo estates. On the one side is the Villa Pecille with a total of five differently sized apartments directly in Panzano in Chianti. The house is situated in a beautiful, flowering and fragrant garden surrounded by vineyards. You can enjoy a picturesque view over the Conca d’Oro right from the pool. The agriturismo La Rota is located in the heart of the valley and with its three apartments and swimming pool it is the perfect place for a Tuscany holiday for discoverers and connoisseurs. The Tuscany trio is completed by the Villa I Canonici for a perfect dream vacation. It joins two elegant and comfortable country houses surrounded by a typical Mediterranean garden.

Fontodi
