Casaloste Chianti Classico DOCG
The Chianti Classico Casaloste DOCG: dynamic, organic, fantastic!
The organic concept has top priority at Casaloste: and the Chianti Classico, which accounts for the lion’s share of the range, is also certified as organic wine. At the same time, Chianti Classico from Fattoria Casaloste is a Tuscan red wine made from 90 per cent Sangiovese which provides the special taste and minerality so typical for this autochthonous grape variety. Ten more per cent Merlot complete the spirited Sangiovese and give the wine warmth and smoothness. After careful manual harvesting, the grapes are transferred to stainless steel tanks for alcoholic fermentation. The young wine is then placed in 250 to 350 liter French oak barrels for further malolactic fermentation. The Chianti Classico remains there for almost 12 months before being bottled. If you have the pleasure of opening a bottle of Chianti Classico from Casaloste your nose will be tickled by a bouquet of wild berries. On the palate, the long and elegant tannins show themselves in their most beautiful and pleasant way. Small tip: always have more than one bottle at home…
From Panzano in Chianti to the Greve valley
The Fattoria Casaloste is situated at a lower part of the hills of Panzano in Chianti. The vineyards of the estate extend along the valley of the Greve. Casaloste is owned by Giovanni Battista d’Orsi, a trained agronomist and oenologist. Together with his wife Emilia he manages the Fattoria Casaloste according to biological criteria. Actually, they come from Naples. But during a visit to Chianti Classico they discovered Casaloste and fell head over heels in love with this spot. To cut the long story short: they bought the vineyard, moved their main residence to Panzano and since then have put all their passion into making wines. Casaloste has a total of 19 hectares of land, 10.5 of which are planted with vines and two with olive trees. The result: around 60,000 bottles of wine are produced every year here.
Fattoria Casaloste: the small vineyard with the great wines…
"La piccola fattoria dei grandi vini" - the small vineyard with the great wines - is how Fattoria Casaloste describes itself. And right like that! In addition to the long-running Chianti Classico, there have other organic wines that achieve excellent points in international wine rankings. For example, the Chianti Classico Riserva, 95 per cent Sangiovese and 5 per cent Merlot and other varieties, makes the heart of wine lovers beat faster. There are also two different Gran Selezione from Casaloste - both 100 per cent made of Sangiovese. The Gran Selezione "Don Vincenzo" - named after the late father of Giovanni d’Orsi - for which the grapes come from a single vineyard. And only since the 2011 vintage has the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Casaloste" been available, which is produced from grapes from various vineyards. And the name says it all in the case of Inversus Toscana IGT: 90 per cent Merlot and 10 per cent Sangiovese are used for it - the exact opposite of Chianti Classico.
Vino, Olio & Holiday: everything organic and with "molto amore"…
From the first instant the two Neapolitans Emilia and Giovanni were sure of one thing: the Fattoria Casaloste is to be managed according to biological criteria. Casaloste was the first officially certified organic vineyard in Panzano and thus one of the pioneers of the "organic district" in and around Panzano in Chianti. And apropos organic: the cold pressed Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva from Casaloste is also 100% organic. Typical "Napoli" and with a lot of cordiality and love is also the hospitality at Casaloste. Two small, lovingly furnished apartments and the pool surrounded by olive trees invite guests to spend their holidays at Casaloste in Panzano in Chianti.

Fattoria Casaloste: Ein Wein-Kleinod in Panzano in Chianti

Veronelli | 88 points / |
Wine Spectator | 84 points "Cherry, earth and leather flavors reveal fine Sangiovese character, but the finish is pinched and lightly astringent. Drink now. 2,500 cases made." – BS |
Jancis Robinson | 15,5 points "Panzano. 90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot. Just mid ruby. Concentrated nose of red fruit and nutmeg. Supple, juicy fruit that needs a little more concentration to really balance out the tannins." (WS) |
James Suckling | 89 points "A soft and very silky red with black cherry and berry character. Medium to full body. Slightly dry tannins." |
Vinous | 92 points "The 2014 Chianti Classico is bright, focused and impeccably balanced. Veins of acidity give the flavors striking nuance and energy. Sweet red plum, cherry, mocha and spice extend the finish in this gorgeous, super-expressive Chianti Classico from Casaloste. This is a terrific effort for the vintage." - Antonio Galloni |
