Casaloste Inversus Toscana IGT
The Inversus: or the reversed Chianti Classico…
The name of Inversus IGT says everything: because "invers" means vice versa. And exactly the opposite principle is valid for the composition of Inversus comparing to the Chianti Classico from Casaloste: 90 per cent Merlot and 10 per cent Sangiovese are used for the Inversus. At the same time, the name has a deeper and much more emotional meaning for Giovanni and Emilia, the owners of Casaloste. Their third child, Federico, was born with organs on the opposite side of the body as normal. For example, his heart beats under the right side of his chest and the other organs are also exactly mirror-inverted in his body. "Situs inversus" is the medical term for this peculiarity with which Federico lives a healthy and lively life. But it is precisely for this reason that Federico’s fingerprint can be seen on the Inversus label. The wine itself is as special as Federico. After the grapes have been vinified in stainless steel tanks, the wine is placed in new and used oak barrels for a period of 16 months. It is then bottled and allowed to rest and mature again. The Inversus is a new interpretation of the Chianti Classico terroir, which is of course dominated by the autochthonous Sangiovese grape variety, but in which the Merlot vines have also found a good area to show their merits.
Organic wines and organic products at the highest quality level
Everything that grows and thrives on Casaloste is organic: from the grapes passing by the olives and finishing with the mulberry on the tree in front of the tasting room. Here you can taste first-class organic wines with a view over the wine barrels and of course you can buy them. The absolute "numero uno" is of course the Chianti Classico, followed by the Chianti Classico Riserva, which consists of 95 per cent of the autochthonous Sangiovese grape variety. In addition, two different Gran Seleziones from Casaloste delight the gourmets’ palates. On the one hand is the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Casaloste", which is 100 per cent made from Sangiovese from different parcels. And on the other hand the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione "Don Vincenzo" come from a single vineyard. All in all, Casaloste’s red wines have their own unique style - they are denser, fuller and warmer than other wines. And apropos style: a stylish Tuscan meal should not miss the cold-pressed Olio Extra Vergine di Oliva from Casaloste.
The Fattoria Casaloste: on the banks of the Greve in Panzano in Chianti
From the main road leads you through the hills a narrow one, surrounded by low stone walls. And then you are already there, standing in front of it: in front of the Fattoria Casaloste. Ten and a half hectares of land are planted with vines, another two hectares with olive trees. In total, Casaloste owns 19 hectares of land. In 1992 Giovanni d’Orsi moved together with his family from his hometown Naples to Panzano in Chianti. And why that? Quite simply, because Emilia and he had fallen in love with a winery in Panzano in the heart of Chianti Classico. And to be more precise it was namely the small Casaloste winery, which the two of them bought without further ado. They renovated the little house and turned it into a small piece of jewellery. And with the same energy, Giovanni - an experienced agronomist and oenologist - started to work in the vineyards. His aim was to produce wines on a biological basis that would not deny their Tuscan roots and at the same time have the potential of top wines.
Fattoria Casaloste: the organic jewel in Panzano in Chianti
In 1994, Casaloste was the first officially certified organic vineyard in Panzano - and thus the pioneer of the "organic district Panzano" proclaimed as such by the world press. Of course Fattoria Casaloste is also a member of the ‘Unione di Viticoltori di Panzano‘, which is also committed to the principles of organic farming of the hills of Panzano. In other words, Casaloste uses no chemical sprays and the energy needed for cellars, mountains and agriturismo is generated by solar panels. Apropos agriturismo: Emilia and Giovanni have also lovingly restored two apartments within the stone walls of Casaloste. Here you can now enjoy your organic holiday according to all the rules of the art: by the pool shaded by olive trees with a glass of red wine? or would you prefer a wine tasting in the tasting room with a view over the barrels? The choice is not easy…

Fattoria Casaloste: Ein Wein-Kleinod in Panzano in Chianti

What other people think about 2013 Inversus Toscana IGT from Casaloste ...
James Suckling | 93 points "Lots of spicy, intense and focused blackberry, tea leaf and mushroom character here. Full body, velvety tannins and a savory finish. Richer style but characterful. Let it mellow for a year or two. Made from organically grown grapes." |
