Fattoria di Rignana Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG
Strong body with berry aroma
The strong body of the Chianti Classico Riserva is primarily ensured by the grapes from the excellent locations of the Fattoria e Villa di Rignana in the Conca d’Oro. 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Franc have been used for the Chianti Classico Riserva since 2012. In previous years, 15% Merlot was added to the Sangiovese. But the carefully composed ripening process also makes its contribution to this top wine: the alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks is at controlled temperature of 27°C and lasts for about 21 days. Then the biological acid degradation takes place, also in steel tanks. Chianti Classico Riserva is further matured for 24 months in new and used oak barrels of different sizes – barrels and tuns. After bottling, the wine is left in the cellar for at least three more months. The result is a balanced Chianti Classico Riserva in the glass. And in the mouth the aroma bouquet of predominantly dark fruits delights - of course differently, depending on the vintage. The Riserva by Rignana is not only available in the 0.75 liter bottle, but also in the 1.5 liter magnum bottle and even in a 3 liter double magnum bottle. By the way: Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG is ideal for a few years of storage. From the 2015 vintage, a filling in imperial format, i.e. 6.0 litres, will also be available.
Panzano in Chianti: the perfect locations for the best wines!
In the heart of Tuscany, right in the middle of the stretch between Florence and Siena in the Chianti Classico wine-growing region lies the small town of Panzano. And this is exactly where the Fattoria e Villa di Rignana is located - a picturesque winery. Among wine connoisseurs, Panzano has a special position due to its location in the so-called Conca d’Oro or the golden valley. In this top location, the ideal microclimate conditions help every year to produce the perfect Sangiovese grapes for the best Chianti Classico. Moreover, in recent years Panzano has been described by the international wine press as the organic region of Italy. Almost all the vineyards around Panzano - and that is about 500 hectares - are certified organic and are cultivated sustainably. Fattoria di Rignana has been certified as an organic winery since 2014, but the owner Cosimo Gericke had been working on sustainability for a much longer time.
Fattoria Rignana: red wine, rosato and oglio d’olivo from Tuscany
The Fattoria di Rignana, which includes around 14 hectares of vineyards, convinces wine connoisseurs and wine lovers with five different typical Tuscan wines: a fruity Chianti Classico made from 85% Sangiovese and 15% Canaiolo grapes; an expressive Chianti Classico Riserva made from Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc; an elegant Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, pressed from a selection of the best Sangiovese grapes from Rignana; and under the title "super tuscan", the "Il Riccio" completes the range of red wines from Rignana. The special thing about "Il Riccio" is that it is made from pure Merlot. The wine assortment is rounded off by the fruity, lively Rosato and the fragrant white wine Bianco from 100 % Sangiovese. And what should not be missing from a typical Italian meal in Tuscany: an Olio Extra Vergine d’Olivo, which is made in Rignana from the fruits of its own olive trees.

Tasting notes by vintage of Fattoria di Rignana wines
2012 Fattoria di Rignana Chianti Classico Riserva
Dark ruby red with violet reflections in the glass. In the nose play together aromas of ripe cherries, sour cherries and Cabernet Franc. This Chianti Classico Riserva is very fresh, airy, spicy. In addition, there are aromas of gooseberries, green tomatoes and wild herbs such as lemon balm and mint. The first sip is very convincing: really beautiful! The fruity aromas in the nose are almost self-evident, the spice becomes louder on the palate, a skilful use of wood during vinification gives this red wine a wonderful and delicate taste of vanilla. The acidity and tannins are in harmony and support the taste. Strong and persistent, elegant and tasty.
2010 Fattoria di Rignana Chianti Classico Riserva
Dark ruby red in the glass. A full bouquet of aromas: dark fruits like blackberries, blackcurrants, blueberries and plums paired with a lot of vanilla, pimento, cinnamon, some dark chocolate and raisins. On the palate the taste is fresh, again dark fruits, spice and delicate tea aromas. The elegant acidity plays harmoniously with the fine tannins. Elegant and powerful structure, long lasting. Wonderfully typical.
2008 Fattoria di Rignana Chianti Classico Riserva
The first impression in the nose is simple - Chianti Classico, but of course the powerful version. Typical aromas of fruits such as cherries, sour cherries, blueberries. But also spicy like pepper, juniper and vanilla. On the palate very balanced, round, full-bodied with a fine acid-tannin structure. The wine is juicy, sweet and shows the typicality of Panzano in Chianti.
What other people think about 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG from Fattoria di Rignana ...
Robert Parker | 88 points "The 2012 Chianti Classico Riserva feels like it is held back by the vintage heat and drought. The wine offers one dimensional tones of red cherry, moist earth and cola. It reveals a raw and rustic personality over medium weight and a good blast of aromatic intensity. You can taste the heat and sweetness of the vintage. For that reason, I would recommend this Riserva for short-term drinking." |
Wine Spectator | 90 points "A mix of leather, spicy cherry, woodsy and tea flavors are the hallmarks of this intense, beefy red. Leans toward the tannic side, finishing long and spicy. Best from 2018 through 2025. 12,000 cases made." -BS |
Jancis Robinson | 15,5 points "Panzano (Greve in Chianti). Mid ruby with orange tinges. Spice and a hint of dried fruit on the nose. Rather sweet on the palate followed by zippy acidity. Doesn’t remind one immediately of Sangiovese. Perhaps the fruit was a little overripe?" (WS) |
What other people think about 2008 Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG from Fattoria di Rignana ...
Jancis Robinson | 16 points "Deep, opaque ruby. Herbal and subdued and hint of vanilla. Rich, sweet fruit and hints of cumin. On the finish a rustic tannic layer, but appealing and with very good length." (WS) |
