Gagliole Biancolo Toscana IGT
Biancolo Toscana IGT: a white wine from the Chianti region
There are many white wines but usually not in the winegrowing region of Chianti Classico. Here rules Its Majesty the red wine and mainly Sangiovese. But since Gagliole itself is a very extraordinary winery, it is also moving a little bit out of the line. Because at Gagliole you can find not one but two white wines. One of them is the Biancolo Toscana IGT. A light, fruity white wine, half made from Trebbiano and half from Chardonnay grapes. Even the transparent bottle conveys a hint of lightness at the first glance. The wine is vinified and matured in stainless steel tanks for a period of nine months. The grapes for this fresh drinking pleasure, which is rather unusual for the region, come from vines around Gagliole. All in all this is a wine that when well chilled (at approximately 10 degrees) is suitable for every cosy summer evening with friends. But can also be drunk confidently in winter. Here a small tip: simply heat up a little more around and you would feel almost like summer…
Antico Podere Gagliole: Tuscany as if from a picture book
In 1990 the Swiss couple Monika and Thomas Bär-Bettschart acquired the Antico Podere Gagliole winery in Castellina in Chianti. Monika had fallen in love with the historic manor house and the surrounding countryside years before she met her husnband. In the beginning the couple leased the vineyards to other wineries. But ten years ago the decision was made to start producing wine again at Gagliole with the support of a professional team. In 2011 Thomas Bär also bought the La Valletta winery in Panzano in Chianti. Thus Gagliole now has a total of 20 hectares of vineyards, all of which are managed sustainably.
Gagliole in Castellina and La Valletta in Panzano: the dynamic wine duo
Ten of Gagliole’s 20 hectares of land are located on cypress-lined hills that surround the winery in Castellina. What immediately catches the eye of the visitors are the terraced vineyards, on which of course mainly the wine, but in between olive trees grow, decorated by numerous rose bushes. A further ten hectares of vineyards are located around the La Valletta estate in Panzano in Chianti. The sites here are located at the uppermost north-western edge of the famous Conca d’Oro, known for its shell shape and the ideal for Sangiovese microclimate. The age of the vines growing up here on the edge of the golden valley ranges from two to forty-five years. By the way La Valletta is also an excellent holiday destination. In a beautifully renovated house, in lovingly furnished rooms, with a pool lined with fragrant rose bushes, offering an incomparable view over the golden valley… What more could you ask for? Well maybe a glass of Gagliole…
Red wine, white wine & olive oil: with Swiss precision, Tuscan tradition and lots of love
Perfect red wines are produced at Gagliole with an ideal mixture of Swiss precision, Tuscan tradition and a lot of love. First of all the Chianti Classico with the name Rubiolo - consisting of 90 per cent Sangiovese and 10 per cent Merlot. After the Valletta Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT is made from Sangiovese grapes and Merlot grapes. Another red wine in the range is Gagliole Toscana IGT, with garpes coming from La Valletta in Panzano - 90 per cent Sangiovese and 10 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon. The Pecchia Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT, a 100% Sangiovese from Panzano is produced according to the "Vinificazione Integrale" method, and only with grapes from the very best vintages. It is undoubtedly the highlight in the range. White wines are rather unusual for Chianti Classico but Gagliole has two of them on offer. Namely on the one hand the light, fruity Biancolo and on the other hand the somewhat stronger Il Bianco. The product range is rounded off by an excellent Olio Extra Vergine, which is pressed in the company’s own mill.
Gagliole
Antico Podere Gagliole in Castellina: Ein italienisches Stück vom Paradies
