Gagliole Gagliole Toscana IGT
A real "Panzanese" from the cellars of Gagliole
The Gagliole Toscana IGT is a real "Panzanese" because all the grapes for this red wine come from the vineyards of La Valletta in Panzano in Chianti. Next to a luxury Bed & Breakfast, there are ten hectares of vineyards belonging to the Gagliole estate. The famous Conca d’Oro, or the golden valley, provides a special microclimate due to its shell shape and thus ideal conditions for vines and grapes. A cuvée of 90 per cent Sangiovese and 10 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon is used for the Gagliole Toscana IGT. After manual harvesting and pressing, the grapes undergo alcoholic fermentation in large oak barrels. Malolactic fermentation and ageing take place in special barrels called "Cult" from Tonnellerie Baron, two thirds of which are new barrels and one third are used barrels. The wine remains here for at least 14 months. This is followed by at least six months in the bottle. In outstanding years the grapes are also vinified by the method "Vinification integrale". All in all, the Gagliole is a very well structured, balanced wine with dense and fine tannins. And it tastes best when you give it a four to six year break.
Antico Podere Gagliole: a jewel in the heart of Tuscany
The Gagliole Winery is a true jewel that combines the many-sided beauty of Tuscany - so to speak from the first glance to the last sip. In gentle curves, the road, lined with cypress trees so typical of Tuscany, climbs up to the farmhouse, hidden among tall deciduous trees above the vineyards. On the rear side of the property, behind a large wooden door, is the wine cellar, which alone is a real visual pleasure. Since 1990 Gagliole, which was first mentioned in royal records as a "wedding present" in 994 AD, has been owned by the Swiss Bär-Bettschart family. Actually, the couple bought the house because the wife, Monika, had fallen in love with this little corner of the world at a young age. Only much later did the two of them decide to try it as winegrowers themselves. Ten hectares of vineyards have been managed by the Bär-Bettscharts for about ten years with the support of a professional team. In 2011, the acquisition of the La Valletta winery in Panzano in Chianti, added another ten hectares of vineyards. Today, Gagliole has a total of 20 hectares of vineyards, all of which are managed with sustainability in mind.
Red, white & green: Italy’s colours stand for good taste at Gagliole
Sangiovese is the grape variety that is naturally the centre of attention in Chianti Classico wines: the Pecchia Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT is a 100% top Sangiovese in the Gagliole range. The special feature of this red wine is the method of vinification: it is produced with the help of the "Vinificazione Integrale" method, originally developed in France, and only with the grapes of the very best vintages. The Chianti Classico with the name Rubiolo is a bled of 90% Sangiovese to which 10 per cent Merlot are added. And the Gagliole Toscana IGT complete the range of Gagliole with its 90 % Sangiovese coming from La Valletta in Panzano and 10 per cent Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The Valletta Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT is a half-half wine: half made from Sangiovese and half made from Merlot grapes. In addition, the Gagliole range also includes two white wines: the Biancolo which impresses with its fruitiness and the Il Bianco which is the stronger bigger brother. The product range is rounded off by an excellent Olio Extra Vergine - green gold, which is pressed in the company’s own mill.
Gagliole and La Valletta: the best of Panzano and Castellina
Ten of the total 20 hectares of vineyards belonging to the Gagliole estate are located directly on the vineyards of Castellina. The special thing about these sites is that they are terraced and that olive trees and roses are constantly growing among the vines. This type of cultivation has existed in Tuscany since the Middle Ages, that is why it is listed as a historical monument. The arrangement of the terraces and the alternate planting of the vines also ensure a pleasant interplay between sun and shade as well as an ecological balance in the vineyard. Another ten hectares of vineyards are located around the La Valletta estate in Panzano, in the Conca d’Oro, famous for its shell shape and ideal growing conditions. The vineyards of La Valletta are located on the upper edge of the valley. The sun shines on the vines all day long, at the same time cooler winds cool the vines a bit. By the way La Valletta has been lovingly renovated and the beautiful rooms are rented to holidaymakers. An absolute dream: the pool surrounded by fragrant rose bushes, from which one has an indescribable view of the golden valley.

Gagliole
Antico Podere Gagliole in Castellina: Ein italienisches Stück vom Paradies

What other people think about 2013 "Gagliole" Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT from Gagliole ...
Veronelli | 92 points / |
Robert Parker | 88 points "A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, the 2013 Gagliole sports an oak-driven style with layers of spice, cinnamon and dark leather. The fruit nuances buried underneath recall ripe cherry and blackberry. Those heavy wood influences take away from the wine’s overall complexity and depth." |
James Suckling | 93 points "This is really soft and delicious with juicy, soft and velvety tannins and plenty of fruit. Medium to full body, savory and satisfying. A little young now but so drinkable. A blend of cabernet sauvignon and sangiovese. Drink or hold." |
Vinous | 92 points "The 2013 Gagliole Rosso is a dark, sumptuous beauty. Even with all of its intensity, the 2013 has a kick of acidity that keeps the flavors bright. Blackberry jam, spices, herbs, licorice and menthol are all fused together. This is an especially ripe, extracted style. The 10% Cabernet Sauvignon is felt in the wine's darker fruit profile and tannins. The 2013 is a beautiful, unctuous wine endowed with real depth and power." - Antonio Galloni |
