Aldemara Rosato IGT from Il Palagio di Panzano
Freshness, colour and fruit - a force!
Il Palagio di Panzano also has a Rosato in its range for the first time with the 2017 vintage. And what a Rosato! What a freshness! What a color! What a fruit! The pure joy of drinking this wine! But to the facts: the Rosato Aldemara IGT is pressed from 100 per cent Sangiovese. The grapes used come from one of the southern vineyards of Il Palagio in the Conca d’Oro. At the end of August or beginning of September, the grapes are carefully harvested by hand and immediately pressed. For the vinification at 14°C max., the wine is transferred to steel tanks where it gets its pale pink colour. It remains there during the entire ripening process. The pure taste of the Aldemara changes between sweet cherries and a blend of red berries. There is a hint of white flowers over it. And who knows, maybe it was exactly these white flowers that Monia Piccini’s grandmother Aldemara cut - because Monia’s "nonna" is also what can be seen on the label of Aldemara. "The best way to keep the memory of my wonderful grandmother alive was to name such a happy wine after her," says Monia Piccini, owner of Il Palagio di Panzano. It is best to drink it well chilled and fresh!
Azienda Agricola Il Palagio di Panzano: a family business in Panzano in Chianti
A few years ago Monia Piccini took over the winery Il Palagio di Panzano from her father. Her husband Franco actively supports her in the wine cellar and in the agriturismo with his craftsmanship. Monia and Franco are what one calls real Panzanese - because they do not only live in Panzano, but they were also born and grew up here. Moreover, Monia is a woman with a strong character - with Sangiovese in her blood. She knows exactly what she wants: quality, quality and again quality. The basis for the best quality in the glass are of course the vineyards, which extend over excellent locations in the famous Conca d’Oro, the golden valley of Panzano. The sun spoils the grapes all day long and thanks to the altitude they keep a cool head at night even in the hot summer months. Because not only we humans like a little night-time cooling, but also the Sangiovese vines. By the way, they make up the lion’s share of the grapes on Il Palagio. Besides the Sangiovese, a little Merlot grows in the vineyards, which is needed for the Torgentile IGT.
Red wines with heart and brain - and fully organic!
If you come from Florence on the S 222 road, the Chiantigiana, direction Siena you arrive to Panzano in Chianti: first you go up the hill, then you reach on the Piazza the highest point of the village. If you follow the road after the slight bend to the left, you come to the point where the road goes downhill again, where you can directly buy the Azienda Agricola Il Palagio di Panzano wines. If the guests take their seats at the large tasting table, they can enjoy the view over the entire Conca d’Oro. From here you can also see the winery itself, whose vineyards extend over the golden shell. And then the guests get to taste the Chianti Classico, the Chianti Classico Riserva, as well as the Le Bambole, which is the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione of Il Palagio. The fruity young Ignobile and the Merlot Sangiovese blend Torgentile are also waiting to be enjoyed and can be also bougth. And of course you can also try the fruity spicy Olio Extra Vergine d’Oliva here. What one immediately tastes with all wines and products is the fact that Monia puts a lot of heart and soul into her wines, but also a good portion of brain. For Monia it is obvious that the winery should be managed organically - since the 2013 vintage the winery has been officially awarded the organic certificate. And you just taste it…
Holiday in agriturismo with family connection…
In addition to the winery, Monia and her husband Franco run the agriturismo in Il Palagio. The house with its many corners, hidden squares and courtyards, with its numerous terraces and its enchanted garden is a small fairytale castle. It was built from the stones typical for Tuscany. And who knows, maybe you will also meet the two princesses - the two daughters of the house - to whom even the Gran Selezione is dedicated with the name "Le Bambole". Only the swimming pool with the view over the Conca d’Oro makes you fall in love with Il Palagio. And when the scent of jasmine, mixed with a hint of lemon, lavender and rosemary, passes by, you have finally succumbed to the magic of Il Palagio. By the way: Florence or Siena are only a stone’s throw away from Il Palagio. You can reach walking the Piazza di Panzano, where you can have dinner in one of the nice little restaurants. Or, simply let your gaze wander over the golden valley until sunset, open a good bottle of wine and enjoy life.
