A fruity, uncomplicated jester, with fine acidity and light body from pure Sangiovese
Il Palagio di Panzano Ignobile Toscana Rosso IGT
The uncomplicated "Ignobile" from Panzano
Ignobile means as much as "not noble" - but what can clearly be considered as not true if you have already tasted the Ignobile. Monia Piccini and her husband Franco, the two owners of Il Palagio di Panzano, are responsible for this uncomplicated, easily accessible red wine made from one hundred per cent Sangiovese grapes. The grapes come from the San Martino vineyard, in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine region. Up to 10,000 bottles of this typical Tuscan red wine are produced every year. It presents itself fresh and fruity in the glass, with the expressive scent typical for Sangiovese. The best way to enjoy the "Ignobile" is to simply enjoy it well chilled in a summer barbecue evening with friends. An easy wine for uncomplicated evenings.
The Conca d’Oro: special sites for special wines
In Panzano in Chianti, which lies exactly between Florence and Siena in the Chianti Classico wine region in Tuscany, you will find numerous top wineries. Panzano is regarded as the "organic wine region" par excellence: almost all estates here work sustainably or are already certified organic. The vineyards on Il Palagio di Panzano have also been cultivated organically since 2007 and have been officially certified organic since 2013. The vineyards extend over the famous Conca d’Oro, the golden valley, and the San Martino vineyard is the cooler part. Here, in this unique spot in Tuscany, amidst one of the oldest appellations in the world, the sun shines all day long on the Sangiovese and Merlot grapes of Il Palagio di Panzano. The special geographical position of Panzano ensures a warm climate during the day and a cooler night - ideal for the production of fruity and elegant red wines that are full of character and strength. And, of course, for the production of olive oil…
For the love of red wine, Panzano and Tuscany
The wines of Monia and Franco Piccini can be tasted and bought not only directly at the winery, but also in the centre of Panzano, in a small but fine shop. The entire range: Chianti Classico, Chianti Classico Riserva and the top wine Le Bambole, which is the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, as well as the simple Ignobile and the elegant Torgentile. With the exception of Torgentile, which is made from 60% Merlot and 40% Sangiovese grapes, all three Chianti Classico and Ignobile wines have been produced only from Sangiovese autochthonous grape variety since the 2014 vintage - certified organic since 2013! And you can taste this love and care with every single glass of red wine!
In the heart of Chianti Classico: vacation in the enchanted agriturismo
Monia Piccini, the owner of "Azienda Agricola Il Palagio di Panzano", has inherited the family winery from her father in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the middle of the Conca d’Oro. Today she runs with her husband Franco the winery and the agriturismo with its enchanting rooms and the apartments furnished with attention to detail. Everywhere in the rooms you can find carefully restored furniture, which Franco, who is actually a trained restorer, has helped to restore to new splendour. The medieval estate, built around the year 1,000, is the home of the Piccini family, who welcome many guests from all over the world year after year. And when after a refreshing swim in the pool you can enjoy the view over the "golden valley" from your chaiselongue, then you understand why the wines from Panzano taste so wonderful. And then it would be best to drink a glass of red wine to toast your successful holiday!

Tasting notes by vintage of Il Palagio di Monia Piccini wines
2014 Il Palagio di Piccini Monia Ignobile Toscana Rosso
Surprisingly strong color in the glass. Aromas of ripe berries, such as blackberries, wild strawberries and blueberries, play around the nose superficially. Some wet earth mixes. Forest, we are in the forest, of course only in our head. Less spice than usual, delicate pepper notes. The 2014 Ignobile is animating in acidity, it is round, shows soft tannins and is a funny fellow. Harmonious and sweet.
2013 Il Palagio di Piccini Monia Ignobile Toscana Rosso
Bribbing cherry and blackberry aromas in the nose. Accompanied by a delicate spice of pepper, juniper and cloves. But also fine floral aromas of lilac can be found in the nose. And then the first sip. Wow! Surprising, clearly marked by the terroir of Panzano. Again these wonderfully typical fruit aromas of Sangiovese, accompanied by spicy aromas, the acidity dancing slightly on the tongue, but that is funny, that makes this red wine from Panzano so wonderfully alive. The tannins are very fine, but you should not think much about it, just have fun and enjoy!
2012 Il Palagio di Piccini Monia Ignobile Toscana Rosso
Fruit and seasoning: currants, cherries, plums, pepper, juniper. Fresh on the palate, fruity and spicy, at the same time mild and soft, delicate caramel, well integrated acidity and mild tannins. Typical Panzano. Recommended to drink well chilled.
