Il Palagio di Panzano Le Bambole Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG
Great taste in exclusive quantities
Le Bambole Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG is a heart project of Monia Piccini and her husband Franco from several points of view. With the 2011 vintage, this wine has entered the Il Palagio di Panzano range. The Sangiovese grapes for this wine come from a south-facing vineyard in the middle of the Conca d’Oro of Panzano. Following the footsteps of their two daughters Giorgia and Gianna, their two "Bambole", Monia and Franco have named this top location "Vigna delle Bambole". The grapes are carefully harvested by hand, then fermentate first in steel tanks for 21 days, then in 500-liter French oak barrels for 12 months and finally in oak barrels of 1,000 litres each for further 18 months. For further six months the wine completes its maturation in the bottle - whereby it also tolerates well and gladly further 25 years in the bottle. The result: a ruby red wine with a slightly garnet red nuance, which reminds of ripe, red fruits in the nose and is powerful and solid on the palate - but with velvety, well-bonded tannins and a long finish. Tip: it is better to order a bit more right away, because only 1,000 to 3,000 bottles are filled per year.
Typical Tuscany: Azienda Agricola Il Palagio di Panzano
Monia Piccini took over Il Palagio di Panzano from her father more than a decade ago. It is located in the middle of Chianti Classico, halfway between Florence and Siena. Monia and her husband Franco are what they call real Panzanesi - because here is their work and their home. This is where they were born and raised. And real Panzanesi have 100% Panzano and Chianti Classico in their blood. The basis for the excellent wines of the young couple is laid on around eight hectares of vineyards in the top locations of the famous Conca d’Oro, in the golden valley: This special geographical location ensures a warm, sun-drenched climate during the day and cooling down at night. That is what the Sangiovese vines like, the leading variety of Il Palagio di Panzano. The international grape variety Merlot is very rare in their vineyards.
Outstanding red wines from Chianti Classico - with organic certificate
In the Il Palagio di Panzano range, there are five different red wines - all typical of Tuscany, but with different character and expression: from the palatable Chianti Classico and the noble Chianti Classico Riserva to the excellent Chianti Classico Gran Selezione with the name "Le Bambole" and the simple Ignobile, the fruity Rosato and the elegant Torgentile. With the exception of Torgentile, only the autochthonous Sangiovese grape variety is used for all red wines. Only Torgentile is a blend in which the Merlot content is higher than the Sangiovese content. Based on the conviction that the future of viticulture can only function with a sustainable approach to nature, cultivation was switched to sustainable cultivation in 2007. The official organic certification followed in 2013. Not for nothing is the small Panzano celebrated by the international wine press as the organic district of Italy!
Family holidays at the Agriturismo Il Palagio di Panzano
The "Azienda Agricola Il Palagio di Panzano" is a real family business: Monia Piccini has taken over the winery from her family, and today she runs together with her husband Franco winery and agritourism. Guests from all over the world come here to spend their holidays "with family connection" in one of the enchanting rooms or apartments. The house, with its many corners, hidden squares and courtyards, picturesque terraces and enchanted garden, is actually a small fairytale castle. And who knows, maybe you will also meet the two princesses Giorgia and Gianna - the daughters of the house. The swimming pool alone, with its fabulous view over the Conca d’Oro, makes you fall in love with Il Palagio di Panzano right away. And when the scent of jasmine, mixed with a hint of lemon, lavender and rosemary, passes by the nose, one has succumbed to the charm of Il Palagio forever.
