Fattoria di Rignana

Panzano in Chianti

Fattoria e Villa di Rignana

Rignana is a charming winery on the north-western edge of Panzano in Chianti, on the border with Barberino Tavarnelle. This idyllic vineyard is not only known for its breathtaking location, but also for its excellent wines. Cosimo Gericke, the current owner, took over the winery from his father at the end of the 1990s. He acquired the winery at the end of the 1960s and laid the foundations for the outstanding wines that characterize Rignana today. Cosimo continues this tradition with great passion and dedication.

Pure Tuscany

Surrounded by 120 hectares of vineyards, gardens and olive groves, the winery and the associated agriturismo are located in the heart of Tuscany. It is not for nothing that Tuscany is a destination of longing for people from all over the world. It is the perfect place to enjoy, relax and celebrate. What's more, Rignana is the ideal starting point for exploring Tuscany and its sights. Florence, Siena, San Gimignano, Greve - all just a stone's throw away.

Sangiovese & Friends

The organically certified wines from Cosimo Gericke, the owner of Fattoria di Rignana, are made exclusively from grapes grown on the estate. Most of the grapes used are probably the most famous variety in Tuscany: Sangiovese. Other grape varieties are also used for the tasty Rignana wines: grapes from the indigenous Canaiolo vine and the international Cabernet Franc grape variety.

The Chianti Classico family

The Chianti Classico and the Chianti Classico Riserva are the two main protagonists in the Rignana range. A magnificent Chianti Classico Gran Selezione has also been produced since 2013. Typical of the Chianti Classico wine-growing region and Tuscany. The Rosato is fresh and fruity, as is the white wine made from Sangiovese grapes, a Blanc de Noir. "Il Riccio", a so-called Super Tuscan, now made from Cabernet Franc, is a loyal companion to round off a successful evening. Extra virgin olive oil is also produced at Rignana - an essential part of any Tuscan meal.

Terroir & quality

Quality is the top priority for Cosimo Gericke in every respect: whether it is the quality of his grapes, which are found in the best locations, or the choice of the ideal clones and the right vine density. At an altitude of between 300 and 400 meters above sea level, the vines grow on a stony, calcareous and clayey soil, the Galestro, on a total area of 16 hectares.

An organic winery in Panzano

The terroir of Rignana provides the perfect ingredients for a perfect wine. In addition, Cosimo Gericke has consistently invested in the expansion of the vineyards and the wine cellar in recent years and achieved organic certification. This ensures that the grapes are processed gently and carefully and that high-quality wines of the Chianti Classico DOCG appellation can ultimately be produced.

"Riccio" means hedgehog

The Fattoria e Villa di Rignana has an eventful history: the estate was first mentioned in the 11th century. The first evidence of the cultivation of vines - including Sangiovese and Canaiolo - dates back to 1700. From the 17th century onwards, the estate became increasingly important thanks to its owners, the noble Florentine Dè Ricci family. Bishop Scipione Dè Ricci (1741 - 1810) in particular was a leading reformer in the Italian Catholic Church. However, he was forced to resign and fled to Rignana. Even then, the coat of arms of the noble Dè Ricci family featured a hedgehog - because "Riccio" means hedgehog.

Marriage & Honeymoon

Several things make Rignana the perfect wedding location: the dream location, the romantic chapel and, of course, the villa itself with its lovingly restored rooms and the pool, which offers a fabulous view. But apart from all these facts, it is the incomparable atmosphere, the flair and the touch of history within the walls that make the most beautiful day of your life not just beautiful, but perfect. If you don't want to get married right away, you can simply spend an unforgettable vacation in the carefully renovated rooms of the villa. Simply familiar, genuine and authentic - simply Rignana.
