New year, new wines...! This year, the wines from Rocca di Montegrossi are the first to find their way from Marco Ricasoli Firidolfi's winery in Monti in Chianti to my warehouse and, of course, to the store. In other words, all the wines in the new delivery are available to order now!The best thing to start with is that the current delivery includes the 2013 vintage of the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto di San Marcellino, which comes from the single vineyard of the same name. Marco Firidolfi, owner of the Rocca di Montegrossi winery, is delighted with this vintage: "2013 San Marcellino is in my opinion one of the three best San Marcellino ever produced, if not the greatest." Well, if that isn't a clear drinking recommendation - and I can only wholeheartedly endorse this recommendation.
The Super Tuscan Geremia contains the international grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. As the 2014 Chianti Classico already proved, this vintage was a challenge - but one that was ultimately more than worth it. As the 2014 Geremia vintage that has now been delivered also proves. Marco Firidolfi sums it up: "Although 2014 was a high-pressure, challenging vintage, we achieved excellent results." Good news for all sweet wine lovers: the current vintage of Vin Santo from Rocca di Montegrossi, which is one of the best in the Chianti Classico wine region, is also included in the delivery. This unique wine is the result of a very complex production process that takes several years. All in all, Marco says "It's such an amazing wine!" - and I can only fully agree with this opinion!
After increasing the production volume in 2008, Marco Firidolfi decided to lower the price of this sweet treasure a little, and the fresh 2017 Rosato from Rocca di Montegrossi also comes in a fresh "guise" this year - namely a new bottle. Of course, it's always what's inside the bottle that counts first and foremost - and that's something you can really taste and is already making you look forward to long, balmy summer evenings. Or to put it in Marco's words: "I am sure that the quality of 2017 vintage won't let anyone down!" The foundation of the Rocca di Montegrossi range - as everywhere in and around Panzano and throughout Tuscany - is formed by Chianti Classico - this delivery includes the 2016 vintage for the first time.
