Il Palagio di Panzano

Panzano in Chianti

Wine in a glass ...

In Panzano in Chianti, in the top location of the "Conca d'Oro", Monia and Franco Piccini produce excellent red wines at their winery "Il Palagio di Panzano": a quaffable Chianti Classico, a noble Chianti Classico Riserva, an excellent Gran Selezione called "Le Bambole" and the elegant Torgentile, a blend of fifty percent Sangiovese and fifty percent Merlot. Since 2017, the range has also included a rosato called Aldemara, named after the grandmother. In addition to wine, Monia's great passion is the production of olive oil.

... Panzano in the blood

And the two winemakers truly have passion and Panzano in their blood: because they are true Panzanesi! In other words, they were born and raised here. They live and work here with their two daughters - in one of the most beautiful spots on earth: in the heart of Tuscany, in the Chianti Classico wine region, in the small village of Panzano, halfway between Florence and Siena. Il Palagio di Panzano is surrounded by almost eight hectares of vineyards, on which only Sangiovese is grown - the olive trees thrive on a further three hectares. Organic farming and the careful use of resources and raw materials are the two fundamental pillars of Il Palagio di Panzano's philosophy.

100 % Tuscany

The winery and agriturismo are housed in a typical Tuscan estate. It was built around the year 1,000 from the stones of the region. The centuries-old walls were already the seat of Duke Totto of Panzano before Dario Piccini turned the property into a winery in the 1960s. The idyllic estate, just a few kilometers from Greve in Chianti, is now owned by the third generation of Piccinis. Monia and Franco have been putting their heart and soul into the wines and the house since 2004.

Organic Sangiovese

The first Chianti Classico, which was created in 2007 according to the principles of the young couple Monia and Franco, was the only Chianti Classico of its vintage to be awarded the highest rating by the renowned wine guide "Gambero Rosso", much to the delight of the whole family. This great confirmation provided a boost of motivation, which also resulted in wonderfully harmonious wines in the years that followed. Based on the conviction that the future of viticulture can only be based on sustainability, the cultivation of Il Palagio di Panzano was converted to organic farming in 2009. This was followed by official organic certification in 2013. It is not for nothing that Panzano is considered the organic district par excellence in Italy!

Red wines & Rosato

In the vineyard and in the wine cellar of Il Palagio di Panzano, Monia and Franco are advocates of natural processes and separate vinification in order to bring out the special characteristics of each individual vineyard. The wines first mature under controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks that hold between 50 and 100 hectoliters. The wine is then transferred to oak barrels, whereby care is taken to preserve the typical flavors of the Sangiovese grapes and to ensure a different maturation process for each of the wines.

Fairy tales in Tuscany

Il Palagio di Panzano looks like a small stone fortress. Yet with its nooks and crannies, hidden squares and courtyards, its numerous terraces and enchanted garden, the villa is a little fairytale castle. And you might even meet the two princesses Giorgia and Gianna, the daughters of the house, to whom the Gran Selezione is dedicated with the name "Le Bambole". The property boasts lovingly furnished apartments where you can spend your vacation - a week, two weeks, or more... The pool alone with its view over the Conca d'Oro, the "Golden Valley", will make you fall in love with Il Palagio straight away.
