Le Cinciole
The Le Cinciole winery in Panzano in Chianti looks back on a long and rich history. The name "Le Cinciole" dates back to Etruscan-Roman times and means "Le terre di Quintus", which translates as "The land of Quintus". This historical heritage is closely interwoven with the region and is reflected in the deep connection with the land. Today, the winery is run by Valeria and Luca Orsini, who took it over in the early 1990s. From the very beginning, their aim was to cultivate the land in harmony with nature and to preserve the traditions of the Chianti region.
Early decision: Organic
When Valeria and Luca took over the winery, it quickly became clear that they wanted to take a different path than many of their predecessors. For them, switching to organic, sustainable cultivation was not only a decision to improve the quality of the wine, but also a commitment to the environment and future generations. The vineyards received organic certification back in 2002. Today, the winery covers 30 hectares, of which 8 hectares are planted with vines. At an altitude of 400 to 450 meters above sea level, not only the vines thrive here, but also 1,000 olive trees on an area of 5 hectares.
Sustainability as a principle
Sustainability is not just a buzzword at Le Cinciole, it is a living principle. The winery's entire energy requirements are covered by solar panels, which are aligned with the path of the sun to ensure optimum energy yield. Chemical pesticides are not used at Le Cinciole; instead, the ecological balance is promoted through the targeted planting of beneficial plants between the vines. The winegrowers Valeria and Luca also follow the principle of circular economy: all organic waste is collected, composted and returned to the vineyards to close the natural cycle and increase soil fertility.
The diversity of Le Cinciole
Valeria and Luca produce organic wines of the highest quality at Le Cinciole. Their wines are characterized by straightforwardness and precision, qualities that also characterize the two winemakers themselves. The winery produces a total of six different wines that reflect the uniqueness of Le Cinciole and the terroir of Panzano. The Chianti Classico forms the heart of the range. In addition, there is the Aluigi, first a Riserva, now a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, the top wine Petresco and the fresh Rosato, all of which are pure Sangiovese wines. The powerful Camalaione and the fruity, fresh Cinciorosso are made from international grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The range is complemented by a fruity, "green" olive oil, which rounds off the range of products.
Tradition and technology in harmony
Le Cinciole succeeds in combining traditional winegrowing practices with state-of-the-art technology. This is particularly evident in the innovative use of sensors attached to the vines. These sensors continuously collect data on the condition of the vines and grapes. Special software is used to evaluate this data, enabling winegrowers to react to changes in real time and thus further minimize the use of pesticides. This technology helps to provide the vines with optimal care and maximize the quality of the grapes, which is ultimately reflected in the high quality of the wines.
Model company
Luca and Valeria Orsini have not only made a name for themselves as first-class winegrowers in Panzano in Chianti, but are also considered pioneers of organic viticulture. Their consistent focus on sustainability and their openness to technological innovations have made Le Cinciole a model company. They always remain true to their philosophy: to live in harmony with nature while producing high-quality wines that reflect the terroir and traditions of the region. Le Cinciole thus exemplifies the successful combination of tradition and modernity in viticulture.
