Gagliole Il Bianco Toscana IGT
The Il Bianco Toscana IGT: the powerful white with the fruity bouquet
The Il Bianco is undoubtedly the big white brother of the two white wines produced on Gagliole under the sign of compasses and beams. Because the Il Bianco Toscana IGT is undoubtedly the somewhat stronger of the two white wines. The Il Bianco is aged on lees in new barrels of French oak. That is followed by at least three months of bottle ageing in an air-conditioned cellar. The grape varieties are Chardonnay, Malvasia and Procanico, which is a clone of the local Trebbiano grape variety. The grapes of these vines, which are about 45 years old and all grow on the terraces around Gagliole in Castellina, are characterised by a particularly thick skin. Another peculiarity: these grapes mature for a longer period of time and are practically the last to be harvested. The result is a wine with a fruity bouquet of great intensity and convincing finesse. Ideally, it should be enjoyed not as cold as other white wines, at the pleasant 16 degrees it will unfold its full aroma. In this sense: salute!
Antico Podere Gagliole in Castellina: where the love of wine lives…
The history of Gagliole is a story full of love and passion: as early as 994 AD, the son of the Longobard king Berengario donated today’s Gagliole Winery to his wife as a marriage present. The Swiss Monika Bettschart, who spent her holidays here at a young age, first fell in love with this little corner of the world and just afterwards with her future husband Thomas. Only after their marriage did the Bär-Bettschart family acquire the Antico Podere Gagliole vineyard in 1990. Initially the vineyards were leased to other wineries. About ten years ago, however, the family decided to produce again wine at Gagliole. In 2011 the family estate was extended by another winery, La Valletta in Panzano in Chianti. Today 20 hectares of vineyards, which are all cultivated sustainably, belong to Antico Podere Gagliole. Monika’s initial infatuation with Gagliole turned into the love of the whole family for the Chianti Classico region and finally into a passion for the excellent wines of the region.
Wines made with Italian passion and Swiss precision
Today, three generations of the Swiss family take part in the events on Gagliole. And the range that has been developed over the last few years is something to be proud of: unusual for the red wine region Chianti Classico are the two white wines in the Gagliole assortment. On the one hand there is the light, fruity Biancolo and on the other hand the somewhat stronger Il Bianco. And then, of course, there are the excellent red wines: starting with the Chianti Classico Rubiolo, 90 per cent made from Sangiovese grapes to which 10 per cent Merlot are added. The Valletta Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT is produced half from Sangiovese and half from Merlot grapes. The grapes for Gagliole Toscana IGT - Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon - come from La Valletta in Panzano. A rarity among the red wines is the Pecchia Colli della Toscana Centrale IGT - the bee. It is made from 100% Sangiovese from Panzano using the "Vinificazione Integrale" method. Last but not least, Gagliole offers a wonderfully soft extra virgin olive oil pressed in its own mill.
20 hectares of vineyards in the heart of Chianti Classico
The historic Gagliole vineyard is situated in the middle of beatiful hills lined with cypresses. A total of twenty hectares of land belong to this vineyard in the center of Chianti Classico. Ten hectares surround the winery in Castellina itself. Another ten hectares are only a few kilometres away in Panzano in Chianti. La Valletta is not only home to a luxurious Bed & Breakfast, it is also home to another ten hectares of the best vineyards at the top of the famous golden valley. The age of the vines growing up here ranges from two to forty-five years. As already said: La Valletta is also an excellent place for a holiday. In a beautifully renovated house, in lovingly furnished rooms, with a pool lined with fragrant rose bushes, offering an incomparable view over the golden valley… What more could you ask for? Well a glass of gagliole wine maybe…

Gagliole
Antico Podere Gagliole in Castellina: Ein italienisches Stück vom Paradies
