Good, better, Fontissimo!

Actually, the Fontissimo can be described with very few words: good, better, Fontissimo! The name Fontissimo stands for the best that Fattoria Le Fonti has to offer. Or as they say among family members, "Daddy's Best." Only the very best Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes are used for this super tuscan. They are carefully harvested by hand - from Merlot to Cabernet Sauvignon. Both fermentation and biological acid maceration take place in stainless steel tanks.The cuvée is usually determined before the Fontissimo starts to age for 24 months in French oak barriques. Here at Le Fonti, the assemblage - i.e. the combination of several wine varieties into one composition - takes place before the wine is moved to the oak wood. "That way the wines have longer time to get used to each other", explains the winemaker Vicky with a smile. After almost two years in the barrel, the wine impresses with its balanced body and its ripe, dark fruit - with sometimes more, sometimes less cherries, currants and cassis. And the best thing about it: all these good qualities are also available in large sizes - as 1.5 litre magnum and as 3 litre double magnum, both packed in beautiful wooden boxes.

The Fattoria Le Fonti is a family winery in Panzano in Chianti that Vicky Schmitt-Vitali has been running together with her husband Guido for several years. Here in the heart of Chianti Classico, a wine region in Tuscany only 30 kilometres from Florence, Vicky and Guido put all their heart and soul into the production of high quality red wines. This is underlined not at last by the numerous international awards in recent years. Of course this includes the typical red wines of the region - Chianti Classico and Chianti Classico Riserva, and the new since the 2013 vintage a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione, the light house wine "La Lepre" - but also a fruity Rosato belongs to the range of Le Fonti. And above all that sits the Fontissimo. And not to forget the Olio Extra Vergine. The purest pleasure!

Vineyards, olive groves and good taste in the valley of Greve

In addition to the approximately 8.5 hectares of vineyards in which the autochthonous Sangiovese grape variety - the leading variety in the entire Chianti Classico - and the international Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties grow, more than 1,500 olive trees are part of the Le Fonti estate. All these plants and their fruits benefit from the special microclimate that prevails here in the "Alta Valle della Greve", at the back of the "Conca d'Oro" - the golden valley. Because in this part of Panzano it's a little cooler. This ensures that the grapes can stay longer on the vine and thus have more time to ripen and develop fine tannins. The organic certification of the vineyards makes a significant contribution to the good taste and first-class quality of Le Fonti wines.
