Fruity and elegant, playful with lots of fun during drinking it! Pure Sangiovese in its light way!
Il Labirinto Toscana IGT Rosso from Fattoria Poggerino
This young boy makes fun in your mouth
Il Labirinto is a young wine in every aspect: even the vines used for this IGT wine are among the younger of the Fattoria Poggerino and are between six and fourteen years old. Moreover, after 25 days of first vinification, the wine matures in cement tanks for only ten months before being bottled. Accordingly this red wine is much less concentrated than other Fattoria Poggerino wines. However, the Il Labirinto Toscana IGT Rosso - like for example the Chianti Classico - is 100 per cent Sangiovese. In the glass the Il Labirinto appears in a bright, fresh red. And that is exactly how it tastes: fresh, young, a real drinking fun!
Fattoria Poggerino: organic red wine from Radda in Chianti
In addition to the IGT Il Labirinto, which can perhaps be considered as the young wild in the assortment of Poggerino, there are a Chianti Classico and a Chianti Classico Riserva with the name "Bugialla", which are vinified quite classically and one hundred per cent from the autochthonous grape variety Sangiovese. Something out of the ordinary is expressed in the "Chianti Classico (N)Uovo". But why? Because, instead of maturing in a wooden barrel as usual, it matures in a large 650 liter cement egg. This is on the one hand an innovation - something that is "nuovo" - and on the other hand a wine made from an egg - a "uovo". Wherefrom comes also the name for this 100% Sangiovese red wine. The Primamateria is the super tuscan in the Poggerino range. It embodies the few Merlot grapes that grow on Poggerino. They are mixed half-half with Sangiovese. Poggerino also produces a Rosato called "Aurora", a spumante wine also made from one hundred per cent Sangiovese, and an extra virgin olive oil. Everything is indeed completely organic! Piero attaches great importance to working in harmony with nature.
A small valley in which the grapes keep a cool head
The Fattoria Poggerino is situated in a small "valley within a valley", just a few kilometers from the centre of Radda in Chianti. About 43 hectares of land belong to the property. Here grow forests and olive trees, vines and vegetables. The forest plays above all an important role for the wine in Poggerino. The relatively steeply sloping, rugged Galestro sites, which face southwest, are surrounded by forests. This surrounding forest provides air conditioning for cooling down at night after a hot summer day. In other words, the grapes produce sugar in the sun during the day, but can cool down at night and remain fruity. And that is how should be a Sangiovese wine. In total, the vineyards of Poggerino cover an area of 12 hectares - 11 hectares are planted with Sangiovese at an altitude of 400 to 500 meters and one hectare with the international Merlot grape variety. In Poggerino Her Majesty the Sangiovese rules the assortment.
Benedetta & Piero Lanza: two for wonderful wine & wonderful holidays
Benedetta and Piero Lanza - a sibling couple with noble roots - are managing the Fattoria Poggerino. Their mother belonged to the old Florentine noble family with the resounding name Prince Ginori Conti and had given them the estate in 1999. Contessa Floriana had inherited the Poggerino estate from her father in the 70's. Together with her husband Fabrizio Lanza, Floriana began producing Chianti Classico under the Poggerino label in 1980. Today her son Piero, an experienced agronomist and oenologist at once, takes care of everything to do with wine. No matter if new vines are planted, if the green harvest is to be started or during harvest and vinification. Benedetta, on the other hand, lovingly takes care of the Bed & Breakfast that belongs to the winery. Simply a wonderful place to spend your holidays. With a pool surrounded by a beautiful green garden, with beautiful rooms furnished in typical rustical Tuscan style, where you simply feel at home. Benedetta is an excellent cook, by the way. And from time to time she also prepares dinner for the guests. Do you have any other plans on any of those nights? Then forget them immediately! You will not regret it. You should not miss a Benedetta‘s dinner!
Fattoria Poggerino
